    Timed FCU

I'm after a timed FCU, to power an electric heated towel rail. The heating element and rail is already installed, along with the wiring to an adjacent cupboard. Every timer I can see, and there only appear to be a couple on the market, have rubbish reviews, and seem to fail very quickly. Anyone...

    New Extension Straight Wall Query

Wow, look at the tiles overlapped the wrong way round as well... shocking!

First compression fitting - water through ceiling...

I use brass olives if possible, tighten up until you hear a squeak (so pretty tight).... never had a problem. No tape or anything.

How to stop pigeons getting under my solar panels?

Out of interest, what damage do pigeons do? We had some nesting under our panels, didn't notice any damage, but wondering if I should be worried and take steps to stop them in the future?

    Condensation and mould in bedrooms

PIV and a log burner... sorted. You'll have a lovely warm house, constantly flushed with clean air, and will never see mould again.

Brick Slips or Hearth first - prep for wood burner

LOL... well yes if you are wiping and smearing soot all over your walls then something has gone drastically wrong! And as a neighbour I would rather the odd bit of burning wood smell (not that it ever happens) than listening to the drone of a heat pump for hours a day. So depends which kind of...

Brick Slips or Hearth first - prep for wood burner

Never had any wood burning smell in my house. In fact, I think the air is cleaner as the fire draws in fresh air and ventilates the house nicely. And if the fire is burning properly, there is barely anything coming out the chimney as its all getting burnt.

Brick Slips or Hearth first - prep for wood burner

Why would they be banned? Wood is a renewable source of energy, and wood burners are very efficient, clean and safe if installed and used correctly. Regarding the OP's question, either way is fine I reckon.

Nest - Away Mode, heating still comes on

House is empty, so I don't think so. I've turned off the Away assist to see if that helps. The other annoyance is that the manual away mode doesn't seem to do anything - you still have to also set the heating to Eco mode, and turn off the hot water separately... so what is the point of the Away...

Nest - Away Mode, heating still comes on

I have a Google Nest 3rd gen, bought 2022. The Away Mode is driving me mad. I turn the Away Mode on when I go away (which supposedly puts the heating to 'Eco' 10.5 degree mode). But then checking the history in the app, I can see that my heating has still been coming on according to my usual...

    1.2m plasterboard, but 1.22m joists!!!

Have I screwed up here? Just bought all my plasterboard to redo my ceiling, currently looking at bare joists following an extension build. The house is 1950's so joists are 16" apart, which means my standard 1200 x 2400 boards are just short in both directions.... which is very annoying. Is...

Fixing solid wood floor to FLOW SCREED

Thanks, I believe it was Tarmac Topflow Screed C (or equivalent), which is cementitious, not anhydrite.

Fixing solid wood floor to FLOW SCREED

I have had a new flow screed put down in my extension. It was a cementitious screed, that went down as a liquid, with a fully tanked membrane underneath. It was a couple of months ago so it is fully dry but obviously I will be checking this before putting flooring down. The screed has a very...

    Condensation mould question

We had exactly this problem. Solved by installing PIV (Nuaire Drimaster), heating house properly, opening bathroom window after showering, cracking open windows occasionally where possible. Not sure which of those things solved it, but all together they certainly did.
