Nest - Away Mode, heating still comes on

House is empty, so I don't think so. I've turned off the Away assist to see if that helps. The other annoyance is that the manual away mode doesn't seem to do anything - you still have to also set the heating to Eco mode, and turn off the hot water separately... so what is the point of the Away...

Nest - Away Mode, heating still comes on

I have a Google Nest 3rd gen, bought 2022. The Away Mode is driving me mad. I turn the Away Mode on when I go away (which supposedly puts the heating to 'Eco' 10.5 degree mode). But then checking the history in the app, I can see that my heating has still been coming on according to my usual...

    1.2m plasterboard, but 1.22m joists!!!

Have I screwed up here? Just bought all my plasterboard to redo my ceiling, currently looking at bare joists following an extension build. The house is 1950's so joists are 16" apart, which means my standard 1200 x 2400 boards are just short in both directions.... which is very annoying. Is...

Fixing solid wood floor to FLOW SCREED

Thanks, I believe it was Tarmac Topflow Screed C (or equivalent), which is cementitious, not anhydrite.

Fixing solid wood floor to FLOW SCREED

I have had a new flow screed put down in my extension. It was a cementitious screed, that went down as a liquid, with a fully tanked membrane underneath. It was a couple of months ago so it is fully dry but obviously I will be checking this before putting flooring down. The screed has a very...

    Cutting Insulation boards

A sharp bread knife against a straight edge - 2 passes. Very little dust. Gapotape if you want to make the job even more satisfying and lovely snug fitting boards

    Condensation mould question

We had exactly this problem. Solved by installing PIV (Nuaire Drimaster), heating house properly, opening bathroom window after showering, cracking open windows occasionally where possible. Not sure which of those things solved it, but all together they certainly did.

    Plastering a new block wall

OK many thanks for that. Sounds like I need to do some investigating. Cheers

    Plastering a new block wall

It's a cavity wall, 100mm will full fill dritherm insulation... built summer 2021 if that makes any difference? First I've heard of having to insulate the inside as well...?!

    Plastering a new block wall

Hi, the internal walls of my new extension are Fibolite blocks (I assume can be considered the same at Thermalite). Regarding the plastering - I would like 'proper' plastering rather than dot & dab plasterboard. Questions: 1. I'm guessing a fully plastered wall is more expensive than dot & dab...

Navien oil boiler - smart controls

Is that because the boiler was still in 'system mode' and needed adapting (I assume from the factory the regular and system models are virtually identical) - how did you manage to fix it? I guess it is is all the set up of the DIP switches?

Navien oil boiler - smart controls

Thanks for the reply. Navien sell a heat only / regular boiler in addition to the system model.... surely the regular version is meant to work on an open vented system?

Navien oil boiler - smart controls

Heat only/regular - standard open vented system, with a hot water tank

Navien oil boiler - smart controls

Hello All I have more or less convinced myself to get a Navien oil boiler to replace my ageing (and leaking) Danesmoor. They seem to have good reviews, seem a bit more modern that others, and are quite a bit cheaper. Question - is anyone here familiar with the various control options? If you...

    Change regular to system boiler

It is pumped central heating, gravity hot water - so one motorised valve only at the moment. I was thinking adding the hot water onto the circuit with an additional MV would be simple enough?
