Insulating Shed - To Air Gap or not

Hi all, Just in the process of constructing a new pre-fabbed shed. Planning to store some tools and a few other bits in there so want to make sure it's insulated. At the moment the shed has 40mm studs. I've picked up some Thermal foil insulation (acts as a vapor barrier), and was also planning...

Making good plaster around new windows

Hi, Having a bit of trouble finding a plasterer to make good the area around some new windows I've had fitted. I've had a few quotes and I keep getting told different things. The main thing I'm trying to avoid is huge architrave that covers the whole span of the gap. One person told me there...

    Skirting mitres out…

Hi, just in the process of fitting some new skirting board to my Victorian terraced property. The walls are slightly out (as to be expected!), and I’ve had to fix new battens below the plaster line to attach the skirting to. I’m having an issue with joining the skirting at one end with a...

    Internal door corner ajar...

Hi, Took some doors off to paint recently, and also fitting some new hinges. I've hung the door but the top corner is sticking out slightly and not sitting flush with the door. Here are a few pictures. Top Hinge: Bottom hinge: Other side of door: It's not totally clear from these...

Removing old tele west cable point

the internal box is at the back of the house, and it looks like there’s a black cable which runs along the side of the house and into the back (connecting into this). I haven’t seen another box outside but I’ll take a look. I was planning on just cutting the cable and leaving it stuck to the...

Removing old tele west cable point

Hi all, currently in the process of renovating my house. There’s an ancient tele west cable box point (pictured) on the wall that I want to get rid of. Just wanted to check and see if anyone knew if this carried any voltage? I don’t want to get a shock trying to get it off the wall! Normally...

    TV mounting advice/help

Perfect, thanks for the advice. I've ordered a mount and am just waiting for it to arrive! Have picked up some of the M8 anchors. Will use my cordless to drill these holes for fixing the TV mount, but planning to get use an SDS and core drill to cut a 40mm(-ish) cable channel through the face

    TV mounting advice/help

The centre of the TV will only be just over 61 inches from the floor when mounted in the position we're looking at, which I think is fine... and we don't really have too many other options for a screen this size! I'm more concerned about whether the single brick thickness will take the weight...

    TV mounting advice/help

Hi, In the process of purchasing a LG 55CX OLED and looking to mount this on a cantilever mount. I've been recommended Sanus mounts, but none of their mounts seem to say they’re suitable for mounting on a brick wall The chimney is unused (and the alcoves either side are too small for the 55")...

    Mounting TV above (disused) fireplace

Thinking about mounting our TV on our chimney breast and would like to ideally run the cables through the breast and out to one side of the alcoves. I'm just wondering what the best approach to this was and if it would cause any structural issues? Here's the chimney breast as it stands - red...

    Soil stack vent... to nowhere

Thanks for the advice. I pulled as much out as possible, then used a 110mm adapter & wedged this into the clay pipe after angle grinding it. There was a small gap on one edge, so I've used a silicon adhesive to seal this up, then applied a liberal amount around the pipe. It's not the neatest job...

    Soil stack vent... to nowhere

I know exactly where the manhole is, so I think I know roughly where it's going... there's just a foot of patio above it, haha! I've cut the PVC pipe about a meter up and removed this to have a better look. In the process the rest of the surrounding clay pipe has seemingly fallen of, held just...

    Soil stack vent... to nowhere

So bit more digging complete, and it looks like whoever laid the patio had previously shattered the clay pipe and then tried to repair it with cement. Here's a few better images: There's quite a bit of rubble and debris inside the clay pipe, but other than the top cracked bit, the bend...
