Is there a tool that will allow me to...

Thanks All for the suggestions. I quite fancy buying a plunge saw, just to add another power tool to the collection. But might be a bit of overkill for what I'm trying to do! Will check my circular saw to see how close it could get, otherwise use the hand-saw method with guide screwed along...

Is there a tool that will allow me to...

... cut decking boards that are tight to a wall? In other words, my decking boards are in contact with my garage wall ABOVE the damp proof layer. It's a single-skin garage wall, and I've now noticed some damp coming through on the inside of the garage. I therefore want to take about 10mm off...

How to install an air brick in garage

Hi. There isn't any leaking from the roof, nor is the floor wet. It's condensation I guess. And yes, garage is detached from the house. It's on its own, not part of a garage block. Do you think air bricks on opposite sides of the garage will work? Why do I need to place some high and low...

How to install an air brick in garage

Hi All Would just like a little advice if possible. I have a single garage with usual up n over door at one end. It's single-skin brick wall with no windows or vents. I've noticed that it can get a little damp in there over the winter - I left a bag of cement in there last winter which had...

No hot water - but central heating works

Thanks Kev. Have tried opening the valves manually but same problem - boiler stops after a couple of minutes. Any other thoughts? Thanks

No hot water - but central heating works

I've checked the header tank and it's half full. My boiler is a Stelad Group Ideal Elan 2. (?) I'm not sure what the circulating pump is, but if it's the central heating pump then that seems OK. All the rads throughout the house get hot when CH is on. It's just HW that's acting up!

No hot water - but central heating works

Hi. I have gas central heating and water and the water has stopped heating. I have a cylinder in my airing cupboard and two 2-port motorised valves, one which seems to control the central heating and one which cntrols hot water. I've changed the thermostat on the cylinder and have checked...

    Garden Decking - novice guide

Hi there Does anyone know of a good step-by-step guide to laying decking? I have almost no idea how to begin, so would be looking for a complete novice's guide. I've done a Google and can't seem to find anything detailed enough. I am mainly interested in how to prepare the area, level the...

    Immersion Tank Heaters

Changed the stats last night; so far, so good. Incidentally, wiring looked completely fine. Think I might have just saved myself £220. Thanks!

    Immersion Tank Heaters

Thanks. Although the plumber who came out suggested that I ought to replace the whole thing (i.e. the heaters) as the wiring was looking a bit black and worn. He actually said that this may have been the reason for the malfunction in the first place. I understand that the heaters (inc...

    Immersion Tank Heaters

Hi. I am new here and have a problem with my immersion tank. My hot water was getting FAR too hot and in fact caused the cold water tank in the loft to start heating up. I called a plumber (I have home assistance with my house insurance) who came out straight away and diagnosed that the...
