Need advise on Vent Axia accessory

I assume the fan is venting to an external area? If so then throw the filter away. Also an extraction fan will not work well if the displaced air in the room can not be replaced. You need an air entry vent at the bottom of your bathroom door to allow air changes to occur while the fan is...

RCD wiki + Common Misconceptions about RCDs

Apologies for the delay, a few domestic tasks (assigned to be by my daughter by executive decision and possibly conspiracy) got in the way. Should have results tomorrow.

    A bit of fun?

I used all of my C&G2391 knowledge and hope for a pass  1. You have installed a new radial circuit consisting of 3x socket outlets. The end of the cable is inside the consumer unit, but not connected to anything. What are the tests you would do, in what order, and how are...

    Automatic battery backup

There is a much lower cost alternative but I can't remember the manufacturer. I will post info tomorrow.

    Automatic battery backup

Yes, they are incredibly flexible but as you say on the expensive side. They are readily available over here and I will post the distributor tomorrow. Having said that, there is a lower cost alternative but for the life of me I can't remember the manufacturer at the moment despite using them...

    Self certification and tester

Oh it's your problem alright, you just have not felt the impact yet and what is legal or ethical about presenting yourself as an electrician when you are under qualified and under experienced? Or are you going to tell your clients that you went on a course that can be completed in one week...

    Automatic battery backup

The DC pump is a good idea. You can use the NC contacts of a "current sensing relay" to detect the drop out of AC power. So the pump would energise as soon as the AC failed. You may also want to add a charger to the NO contacts so that battery is automatically charged when the AC is on...

    Self certification and tester

You will not be fully aware of what is involved in the C&G guilds 2391 until you have taken it and as for studying for it, you can only study for the exam component. Preparation for the practical component comes from real experience of inspection & test of which you have virtually none...

RCD wiki + Common Misconceptions about RCDs

Yep, that's essentially what I have got. I only have a 12VAC transformer but I can still get the correct current with a fixed resister and a pot (to fine tune) in series. It's amazing how easily RCDs trip. Not unexpected of course but a bit like trying to keep a set of scales balanced while...

RCD wiki + Common Misconceptions about RCDs

Ah yes, I see your point. Up to 29mA RCD output neutral to line input side.

RCD wiki + Common Misconceptions about RCDs

That's what I'm looking at at the moment. I'm trying to see what effect N>E current (from N-E PD derived from a TN-S supply) has upon the trip threshold. I'm using two potentiometers but it is tricky setting up the N>E potential without confusing the results.

RCD wiki + Common Misconceptions about RCDs

I always wondered if phase and neutral came into close contact in an RCBO (as a possible reason why there are reports of them blowing up) They do indeed. They are both "squeezed" into the current transformer (toroid) The flexible phase conductor is covered in what looks like silicone...
