    Becoming a Competent Person

be interesting to see what happens to these 'schemes' when the 3rd Amendment comes in as they are removing that definition from the regs and moving to 'skilled' or 'instructed'

Uneven slab.. Laying first course of bricks

Hey all About to start building a lean to carport over my drive but want to put down 2 courses of bricks to put the upright panels on (so the timber isn't sitting on the drive). However.. the slab thats on my drive runs away quite a bit. I've got around 4" to make up over a 6m run...

    Bending quadrant/scotia

I looked at that but the room is the last 'period' room in the house and I'm loathed to put PVC stuff in there.

    Impact drill recommendation

what about buying a bare makita impact driver that will use your existing batteries? Personally I wouldnt touch ryobi and have no experience of erbauer. Ryobi stuff, to me, is DIY gear and not up to much.

    Bending quadrant/scotia

Hello all I've been renovating my front room (slowly!) and as part of it I've laid some engineered flooring. I managed to undercut the door frames but trying to do anything with the skirting boards led to all sorts of issues so the flooring has been laid upto (with a wee gap) the existing...

Vaillant Combi Boiler - HW Issue

Hmm, pump has a 5 micro farad on it that looks original and tests ok. Popped a rad off and ran the heating to see what the flow is like and it's pretty substantial, especially considering microbore. I keep being steered to the overheat thermistor in the combustion chamber though... If its...

Is this switch fused, and what can I replace it with?

or if you are desperate for exactly what you want hamilton will make you pretty much anything you want, in just about any finish. Just done a whole house with a pile of custom mods etc and ordered it all though edmunsons. Not cheap though!

Vaillant Combi Boiler - HW Issue

Might be a red herring with that, hopefully its unrelated. I'm trying hard not to spend money on it as come the end of Jan the boiler will be binned anyway as the house is going to be redeveloped into flats - just need to keep it going ;) I'll check that link tommorow - tbh i'd read that...

Vaillant Combi Boiler - HW Issue

Yup, bottom left. Looks like an oversized sardine tin with 4 pipes off it, one from the heat exchanger up top to the diverter valve and then one from cold water to dhw outlet. Was a bit of a pain in the butt to change tbh, wouldnt want to do it again as i've bugger all space to the left of the...

Vaillant Combi Boiler - HW Issue

Is the offending heat exchanger the small one at the bottom left of the boiler at the back? Thanks for the continuing help, most appreciated :)

Vaillant Combi Boiler - HW Issue

one thing that springs to mind is the part on the back left of the boiler (water heat exchanger?) was changed a good while back as it was originally plastic I think and was totally knackered, its now a stainless item. I also live in a very very soft water area and have a 14year old kettle...

Vaillant Combi Boiler - HW Issue

When you say hydralic piston do you mean the part central in the boiler that has a lever arm and a microswitch? If so it appears to be working correctly
