    Light issue

@ericmark, No i dont think so. This happens in daylight when if i just go into the utility room it doesn't switch on because there is sufficient daylight.

    Light issue

OK, yes i see what you mean. I will check the voltage at the PIR with the work shop light on. Thanks i wouldn't have thought of it in that way. Just thinking it through, The supply goes to the PIR first so i cant see how it loses power at any point. From memory the circuit is MCB To junction...

Choice of downlights for kitchen and living room

I do have downlights in my kitchen (but not my lounge, to harsh imo.) Yes they're bright but i want good light in the kitchen, I did not position them directly above my worktops tho, to prevent shadows as i worked. Very happy with the results. Main reason for posting this is to say i used the...

How bad can a wall be for skimming to be an option

Hi, need advice please. About 8 years ago i had our lounge skimmed. On one wall we have a log burner. About 2 years ago we noticed hairline cracks spreading across this wall. We put this down to the heat from the burner, so we decided it is time to redo. When i started to look more closely i...

    Air pressure release

Hi, out of necessity i need to install a washing machine in the garage. Currently there is no water to the garage and fitting a supply is cost prohibitive due to the trench work that would be required. I will run a detachable hose pipe to the garage. All set up and almost works fine but the...

    Painting Mirrors

Thanks. I thought about fablon but the size of the mirror makes the risk of wrinkles high and although my mom has lost a lot due to the dementia she still worries about colour schemes and imperfections :)

    Painting Mirrors

Hi, my mother has developed dementia and believes a girl is in the house, specifically the bathroom. One wall of the bathroom is a mirror. The girl is her reflection, this is a known phenomenon of dementia, However to try and remove as much stress from her life as possible and to minimise...

    Panel heaters

Why do "fixed" panel heaters need to go on a fused spur and yet I can go to my local DIY shed buy a (or several) 2kw panel heaters that can be plugged in. The plug effectively acts as a fused spur. Whether plugged in or "hardwired there is a possibility of overload to the unwary. So why is it...

    Storage Heater problem

When you changed the switch did you notice if the cable screws where loose or at least not tight. Are they showing signs of burn now?

    Immersion heater problem

Yep done that. The stat reads 0.47 across the whole range of the dial setting The element reads >99.99 By the main switch I mean the main breaker on the CU i.e. the switch that isolates all of the CU. Only two connections on the element (plus an earth) I have just connected the...

    Immersion heater problem

Yes we do have an RCD switch protecting amongst others the immersion circuit. Testing method has been disconnect from supply For stat remove all connections. Place probes on both terminals with temp dial set to furthest point then move temp dial to opposite furthest point. No difference...
