Can I lay reclaimed York stones on this concrete

Hi, we're planning on laying some reclaimed York paving stones in the back garden. Most will be laid on what is currently grass, so will level off and compact about 100mm of sub-base for that. Around the back of the house and the sideway, we have an existing concrete path, laid about 15...

Drilling into RSJ lintel - will it take my bodyweight?

I installed a beastmaker a couple of months ago, and posted here: http://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/heavy-duty-fixing-for-attaching-climbers-hangboard-to-brick.410336/ It can easily support my weight, I'm around 70kg

How would you insulate this loft roof?

Hi all. The loft isn't insulated roof-side, it's felt and tiles. The floor below is very well insulated, but I want to insulate the roof as well so that I can use the loft space for climbing training, weight lifting. the roof: We had an extension a few years ago, and all the roof supports...

Heavy duty fixing for attaching climbers hangboard to brick

An update for anyone in thinking of adding a hangboard; I've used 12mm anchor bolts (100mm length). They go through 2 x 18mm ply, 6 bolts in total. The hangboard is screwed into the ply. So far it's taken my weight, should I cause the wall to collapse, I'll let you know!

Heavy duty fixing for attaching climbers hangboard to brick

The hangboard is for strengthening fingers and hands for climbing, I've bought this one: http://www.beastmaker.co.uk/collections/fingerboards/products/beastmaker-1000-series Good point about the Victorian brickwork and quality - we had an extension a few years ago along with renovations...

Heavy duty fixing for attaching climbers hangboard to brick

Hi everyone. I'm going to attach a climbers hangboard to an internal brick wall at home, it's a load bearing wall, and the hangboard will be above a doorway. The house is over 120 years old, I'm not sure what's behind the plaster, but assuming it's not timber. The board needs to take at least...

    Simple driveway - considerations

Hi all, due to not always having somewhere to park, we're thinking of building a very simple driveway on our front garden. At the moment it's a lawn that drains well, it's not a huge area and we like having the grass there, so the plan is to have 2 strips of paving slabs (for use of a better...

Celotext between or over the rafters?

Thanks Jeds, good point. I wasn't planning on fixing rigid board right to the top of the pitch, just to where the top horizontal collars (?) are, so might be able to get some vents in wwithout too much trouble.

Celotext between or over the rafters?

Thanks both for the replies - very useful information. The loft is well vented along the eaves, but we don't have any tile vents. The roof is very steep, so any work on the tiles will require scaffolding for access, especially if a vent per rafter gap is recommended. No point in doing...

Celotext between or over the rafters?

Thanks for pointing that out, hadn't considered it. There's no membrane, just felt and then tiles. So with that in mind, should I apply a membrane to the felt, of the back of the celotex?

Celotext between or over the rafters?

hi all, I'm thinking of insulating the underside of my roof, and am not sure if I should go over or between the rafters with celotex. The gaps between the rafters are all uneven due to the age of the house, so each section will have to be measured and cut. I've got enough space in the rafters...
