    Old open fire chimney

Mother in laws house is suffering with damp and I suspect part of it may be caused by the old open fire in one room that hasn't been used in probably 20 years, as it's been used as a bedroom. Chimney pots are completely open at the top, letting in rain water, birds, draughts and other...

So what do I expect to find in this cutout & having an isolator fitted

There's some flappy people on here... That's a bog standard Henley 'biscuit tin' cutout, usually found in ex council houses, once upon a time it would have looked like one complete unit with cutout, meter, and consumer unit all butted up next to each other. As bits have been replaced, it...

Expansion vessel position on unvented cylinder

Sorry that's an old photo from before the plumber came back and put everything right....there's a tundish on the 22mm pipe now, and it terminates at ground level now rather than pointing towards the top of the back door!

Expansion vessel position on unvented cylinder

Had an unvented cylinder fitted about 6 months back - there was a long winded thread on here about it as the fitter stuffed it up in numerous ways and didn't issue paperwork. Got the problems sorted by him and received a Gas safe cert for it in the end... Not sure if this makes any difference...

    Core drilling near wooden beams

Doing some work in the mother in law's kitchen, and want to pipe the kitchen extractor so it actually extracts to outside, so as to help with the damp issues etc. As you can see in the pic, there's wooden beams in close proximity. They look as though they are probably structural as they look to...

    Can this roof be repaired

I think you're right. I went up in the loft today to make an attempt at covering some of the holes up to make it slightly more watertight and much more bird proof. The rafters appeared to be sound, the 'uprights' down the middle (supporting the ridge) looked a bit rough in places, but the...

    Can this roof be repaired

I've been tasked with sorting out the mother in laws house, one of the major problems is the roof. There's various tiles missing, even more slightly chipped/cracked, and the felt has gone through in places which has caused damp issues in places. The guttering was full of crap but I've sorted...

Had unvented cylinder fitted - a few questions

Well...gave him the benefit of the doubt and he's sorted it now. 2 port valve fitted and wired in, Tundish fitted to discharge pipe, Discharge pipe routed to low level and caged off. He's also sent pictures of him registering it via gas safe site. Next doors cylinder is going to get the same...

Had unvented cylinder fitted - a few questions

No...one of the many things missing. Have just downloaded the installation manual (as it was missing - installer ignored the bit that says 'this must be completed and given to the homeowner') and highlighted all the bits that are missing/incorrect and cross referenced with photos ready for the...

Had unvented cylinder fitted - a few questions

After discussions with my mate - yes, I will be reporting him to everyone. 3 dangerous points for starters - lack of 2 port valve, undersized D2 pipe, D2 pipe exits wall at high level next to back door (and points towards back door) rather than at ground level caged off. And of course not...

Had unvented cylinder fitted - a few questions

Right I've got a proper G3 registered engineer coming to look this evening and tell me what's wrong with it. He's already said it sounds like it needs to be condemned! Not sure whether to give the guy who fitted an opportunity to put it right. He is coming back to do some work at the neighbours...

Had unvented cylinder fitted - a few questions

Oh dear. Can I ask what is wrong with the discharge pipe, should it have been 22mm up to the tee off? I did think that looked odd. Expansion vessel is above the cylinder just out of shot. I have emailed gas safe, not sure what they can do about it, and will get onto my mate today to give it...

Had unvented cylinder fitted - a few questions

Is there anything I can do about it?

Had unvented cylinder fitted - a few questions

Right I have taken some more photos, its quite hard to capture it properly because it's all tucked in to the airing cupboard. The 15mm => 22mm vent pipe at the back goes under the floor, along the garage ceiling and out through an external wall with 2x 90 degree bends to point it towards the...
