Core drilling near wooden beams

Doing some work in the mother in law's kitchen, and want to pipe the kitchen extractor so it actually extracts to outside, so as to help with the damp issues etc.

As you can see in the pic, there's wooden beams in close proximity. They look as though they are probably structural as they look to be built into the wall and there are other ones further along forming part of the roof structure.

How far away do I need to be core drilling my hole from the beams? I'm not going straight up and through the upright beam, it'll either go 45 degrees or 90 degrees to one side.
