Hi Guys,
Whilst sorting another job out, I noticed that the roof tiles on my porch have separated and I’m guessing what I am looking at is the felt membrane. Whats the best thing to do here? Instead of getting a roofer out to re tile can I fill with mortar or a type of sealant?
No nothing like that unfortunately. The plasterer will cost about £125 so it’s not the end of the world, more just annoying that a professional plumber did this shambolic work and will get away with it.
9 months ago a builder built me a single storey extension. Last week the radiator in the extension didn’t work and I put it down to a frozen pipe and worried about it bursting so I went searching for it.
After going into my ceiling I found the radiator flow + return pipes were sat on top of the...
My structural engineer has told me to use 300mm for the beams to sit on.
Understand your point about the nib but unfortunately getting a party wall agreement in place isn’t an option.
it’s just original brickwork which is there now. This post is about the opening I will be putting in my back wall. So 450mm in to the wall, I would make the opening.
Yeh I don’t think you have fully understood. The RSJ won’t be going on the party wall…If allowed I would have 450mm of my brickwork coming out from the party wall…300mm of that would hold the RSJ then 150mm would be a gap between the RSJ and the party wall.
just making sure that this would be...
I am putting an extension on the back of my semi, close to the party wall which divides me from next door. The opening at the back for the extension will need an RSJ.
How close to the party wall can I put the RSJ without getting the neighbours approval? If I leave 450mm of wall, this would mean...
thanks cdbe. Helpful info. Good point, Talking about just the opening up and supporting part of the job, hopefully 5k-10k or less I am thinking. Then it’s doable for me.
Hi Guys,
I am looking at doing the attached. Opening up all in red with extension. Is this going to be complicated/expensive because of the way the joists are supported?
Wanting double doors opening to the lounge (on the attached it's where the white breaks up the red line), will this need...
Is it normal to have a home built in the last 15-20 years (an average sized 3 bed semi) with no internal supporting walls?
Joists facing all the same way with a central beam not supported on anything other than the external walls
I am planning on putting a small 10sqm extension on the back of my home. I noticed a manhole cover on the area where we want to build and the mrs is panicking that we won’t be able to build.
The house was only built 15 years ago and the manhole is only half a metre away from the house. I am...
