As the title suggests, i need to replace the seat on a closed coupled toilet and cannot get to the nut holding it on. Do you have to turn the water supply off and remove the cistern to get to the nut and thread please?

When I put it to water heating only then and turn it off then it will not heat water for the central heating when I demand that later. I then have to move the switch on the valve to enable the central heating. I very rarely demand both CH and HW together.
Our plumber installed our current diverter valve ten months ago but it is now not moving to put the heating on. It was bought from an online plumbing supplier Our previous diverter valves lasted 8 years or so. Have we been unlucky?
