Red tinge on new door weatherbar

The door isn't oak, not sure what it is. Some quite fine grained hardwood (sorry, not an expert!) but even oak would probably be a considerable improvement. Thanks for the replies

Red tinge on new door weatherbar

Morning, I've recently sanded my hardwood front door and fitted a new hardwood hardwood weatherbar. Unfortunately, I'm unsure of exactly what type of hardwood either are, but pretty sure they're not oak. After applying 1 coat of Fiddes High Build Wood Oil, the Weatherbar has a particularly...

    Reducing garden gate width

Here you go. The 4 corners all have the same joint of course. No cross member in the middle just the 1 diagonal. Thanks again

    Reducing garden gate width

Unfortunately I haven't found this style of gate (to match the fence panels) in anything other than 900mm wide.. Thanks

    Reducing garden gate width

Unfortunately the gate will be sitting mid way on the 13" brick pillar and can't really mount it like you suggested. Shame but thanks for the idea.

    Reducing garden gate width

Hi, I have a purchased 6' x 3' garden gate that I now need to reduce in width by around 2-3" - due to a brick pillar being built closer to a wall than I thought..!! It's a horizontal slatted gate and the frame has bridle joints on the corners. What's the best way to reduce the width while...

    Woodburning Stove removal

I have removed the baffle, yes. There's no screws I'm afraid. Clearly just some thru holes... Ah well...

    Woodburning Stove removal

Thanks for this.. I've seen a similar manual. Both say the adapter would be screwed to the stove from the inside... Mine doesn't seem to be as I can't see any screws inside... Bugger

    Woodburning Stove removal

Is that definitely the case? I've read the following regs "If a chimney has been relined in the past using a metal lining system and the appliance is being replaced, the metal liner should also be replaced unless the metal liner can be proven to be recently installed and can be seen to be in...

    Woodburning Stove removal

Hi, We have a Esse 350 inset woodburning stove and are planning on removing it to fit a freestanding stove. Question is how do I remove it? I had one 'installer' round who admitted he'd never worked with an inset stove and thought I'd have to remove/smash the wall above the stove to access the...

    Some kind of water hammer??

No, the heating is off at night. Plus I can feel the knock through the cold pipes and not the heating system.

    Some kind of water hammer??

Thanks Harry, I've tried isolating each toilet in turn and it still occurs. CH is a combi, so no tank. Don't have a water meter either I'm afraid! I'll maybe try closing the stopcock completely tonight, see if that stops it. Thanks

    Some kind of water hammer??

    Can anyone help me, please?

    Some kind of water hammer??

OK, I seem to have a weird water hammer (??) in the house. It's just a small 'knock' every 10 seconds, like clockwork. It never speeds up or slows down and happens maybe 50% of the time. It can only be heard if all is quiet, especially at night, but stops for a short time if a tap is opened...

    Fitting stair runner on mid-landing

Hi, I'll be fitting a straight stair runner soon and have also had a custom runner made for the straight, mid landing. The piece of carpet is around 1.8m x 0.6m and wondered what the best way of fixing this to the staircase/landing is? As it's a runner, and therefore doesn't meet the edges I...
