Mira shower - flow spindle issue

Hi All Just moved to new house and there’s a Mira ‘crescent’ shower. Day 1 I turned the flow handle to tighten it as it was dripping slightly and it then went very loose and wouldn’t turn on again. Have taken it apart and tightened up the flow spindle hex screw and it seems nice and tight but...

    Re-wiring angled batten lamp

@EFLImpudence I think maybe a misunderstanding yes as I was swapping out with another batten, albeit a different baseplate. Think I’m all sorted now so thanks very much!

    Re-wiring angled batten lamp

Ok, thanks all for your help. I have effectively done the attached (albeit no Earth wire) and works fine.

    Re-wiring angled batten lamp

Like this? New photo added. The previous fitting didn’t have a backplate so the two wires just went straight into the bulb holder. Or do the wires actually need to go in to the L (brown wire) and N (blue) terminal on the rose? What do you mean by flex? The fitting came with two little white...

    Re-wiring angled batten lamp

Thanks. Is the centre contact on the backplate? Im also assuming as my light is 1-way I don’t need to use any terminals on the backplate, just the x2 points on the back of the bulb connector?

    Re-wiring angled batten lamp

Hi I am replacing an angled lamp holder which has a blue and brown wire which I know are neut and live. But the new fitting doesn’t specify which terminal is which so I want to make sure I have it the right way round. Does it matter? I have attached some photos of the new fitting plate and the...

    Loft flooring

Hi all I’m looking to board my loft for additional storage purposes only. Currently there are chipboard panels on top of the joists, with loose insulation just rolled out on top of this. Im not sure if there is much insulation between the joists as these boards are difficult to remove. Any...

    Rad valve leak??

Hi guys Radiator in the attached pic has only been in place for 6 months and was brand new. I’ve noticed this has got slowly worse so can only assume it’s a leaky valve? I never see any visible water but the pipe is corroded as is the underneath of the rad. What would you suggest needs doing to...

    Fitting new bathroom light

Thanks jg321 there is definitely a connector box in the ceiling, bit of a mess though - see attached. Would it be a case of removing one set of wires before connecting up the new light?

    Fitting new bathroom light

Hi folks I’m replacing my existing bathroom light, which has two bulbs, to a light with just one bulb, so there will be a set of wires left over. What do I need to do to make them safe once I turn the power back on? Thank you in advance

    Door lock spring mechanism missing

Hi All, One of my internal door lock mechanisms doesn't work so I took it apart and compared it against one that does. Turns out it is missing a spring inside (see photo attached, faulty lock on RHS). Does anyone know where I can get one of these from? Many thanks :)

    Restoring/sanding old floorboards

Thanks all for your input - I don't feel too confident taking any boards up so I'll have a test in a corner and see how they come up. If the green paint is well and truly sunk in we could always paint them again. Well here goes!

    Restoring/sanding old floorboards

Hi All Just moved to a new house and pulled back the carpet in the lounge to find the old floorboards (I assume pine?). They've been painted quite a thick dark green (see pic attached) and I would like to try and restore them back to their original wood and treat them. IMG_6133 by Will B...
