Fitting new bathroom light

Hi folks

I’m replacing my existing bathroom light, which has two bulbs, to a light with just one bulb, so there will be a set of wires left over. What do I need to do to make them safe once I turn the power back on?

There will likely only be one set of connections to the actual light fitting.

Post a picture if it is confusing.

There's probably a connector blocked shoved up in the ceiling, with one set of wires going in, and the ones you can see coming out. Gentle tug/see what is there from above if possible?

I must admit, when I said "gentle tug" it wasn't just a poor connection I had in mind

Thanks jg321 there is definitely a connector box in the ceiling, bit of a mess though - see attached.

Would it be a case of removing one set of wires before connecting up the new light?

You need to install a proper junction box up there.
That mess is melted (probably the cause of your problems) and dangerous.

Are the those installation cables rubber?
