Hi,

I am replacing our shower with a new once since the old one died (new one is the same kw) BUT the earth wire is just a few cm short.

Is it possible to add a small terminal block to the current earth wire and extend it slightly with more earth wire of the same rating?

Thanks
Sam

Crimp with a good quality crimper would be better IMO.

After you've done it make sure you measure the new R1+R2 - you wouldn't want that to be too high because of a poor join.

Hi,

Thanks, any special crimp required? should i then cover the crimp with anything (electrical tape etc).

Do not use electrical tape. It comes off and leaves a gooey mess.
If you select the right size crimp and use a ratchet type crimper, (not one of those cheepo things from Halfords), then there should be no bare strands on show. Therefore you do not need to insulate it any further.

Unless you already own a ratchet crimper and the correct crimps just use terminal block as per your original post.

You also don't need to cover the joint in tape just make sure the green and yellow sleeving covers the exposed copper.

It does no harm to remind people that there is sometimes more to it than they might think.

If it piques one person's curiosity and prompts them to find out more, and become more knowledgeable, then it was worthwhile.
