Hi all,

After changing a set of taps for an elderly lady today, she drew my attention to her high level cistern toilet (about 1.5m from the pan). Her concern was that it was using too much water and that the flush was too powerful. I made some geeky plumbing remark that most people would give their right arm for a flush that powerful, but apparently it gets the carpet (!) wet when it flushes.

I'll see if I can adjust the ball valve or failing that stick water saving balloon in it, but can anyone suggest a nifty way of reducing the flow rate without dropping the cistern down a few foot!

Cheers :)

dropping the ball valve or putting a water saving balloon in won't stop the force of the water down the flush pipe
only reduce the amount it flushes.

high level cisterns useally have a restrictor in the flush pipe.

The flow restrictors that I have fitted are inserted into the pan itself, just before the flush cone, I have got a couple from ideal standard in the past, basically a poly washer

I solved mine by simply lowering the cistern which then reduces the distance the water drops & it stops it splashing over altho mine is a hidden cistern type I guess the same principle must apply.

If lowering isn't an option then raise the bog & provide steps :p
