Hi, first post here!

Just bought a ex local authority place and it has an old fuse board, ie has fuse wire not trips. There is a distinct lack of plug sockets in all rooms, the main bedroom only has one single socket! Would an electrician consider adding sockets (on spurs) or are we needing to do a complete rewire?

Great site btw, think im going to be on here alot!

Post a few pics of the area around the fusebox and meter, one or two of the lights, switches and sockets.
This will give an idea how old it is.

When you bought house there would have been a periodic inspection carried out and even if not the council should have done one every 10 years what does that paperwork say?

It is old wiring, has the old fashioned ceiling roses and all! Ill get some pics tomorrow as that will be clearer.

I believe the previous owner purchased it from the council in 2000. There were no details of an electrical inspection as it isnt a requirement for a sale or HIP.

HAHA
yet another example of cuckoo land

And even if when the council sold it it had had a current PIR, it's been in private ownership for 9 years now, so that PIR would be worthless.

jamin - I strongly suggest getting an electrician to do a PIR.

ASAP, as any work needed will be better done now than after you've decorated.
