i had a 15/20 litre tub of dulux matt emulsion sat for months and months and when i opened it recently a large proportion of it had dried , i gave it a mix and a lot of the paint went liquid again but there are lots of lumps in it , any trade tricks to get the lumps out or return the paint to liquid?

Cut the leg off a pair of the wife’s tights (make sure there are no holes in it first) & filter it through that into a suitably sized, clean container. Works on all paint regardless of base.

just dump it. If it isn't right it'll never be right.

it could well have been frost , it was in my shed for ages. so frost turns paint lumpy then?

so what would happen if i were to sieve it and use it? ive just ran out of emulsion.

It will probably be fine. Under duress I have used Farrow and Ball paints that were so bad that the tin had rusted inside and the paint stank.

Tights are ok to use for both water and oil based paints.

Not even with a gun to my head would I use that rubish ;)

The oil based eggshell isn't too bad.- better than Fired "we only do waterbased" Earth

I do remember phoning F&B to complain about unmixed pigment in a tin of emulsion leaving red dots as the roller ran over the wall. They fed me some BS about how this is a "character" of F&B paints and that I should stir the paint for at least 10 mins.

unfortunately, oil based eggshell no longer available! is now Estate eggshell. Is a resin based product but water soluble. "Apparantly"with the qualities of the old oil based. Sell it everyday! Have used and am no great fan!!

Groan....

Thanks for the heads up. Oh well i guess i will have to get my local supplier to mix their colours in a Dulux base from now on.

Incidentally their site ommits to mention the fact that the eggshell is waterbased now, they even have a FAQ stating that the oil based is better than the waterbased.
