Any Carpet fitters out there??

Hi,
I had a new carpet fitted at the weekend. The problems is this...it has straight lines woven into it and I think they are not running parallel with the walls making the carpet look wrong. I have measured from the line in the carpet to the wall, and across the length of the room there is about a 3cm variance running from one to the other end. Also if you lift the edge of the carpet up you can see the edge is not cut along the woven line but crosses through them every so often.

Am I being over fussy (my wife can't even see it!) or do you think I have a right to complain

Sorry can't do a picture. I know they did have to cut the carpet because it was a 5m x 4m piece for a 3.3m x 3.8m room. The carpet is from United Carpets

probrably as faulty as hell then....

was it a rollend? you only need to add 10cm to a nett measurement

you appear to have paid for a hell of alot of waste

...a 3.9x4.0 would have been adequate and kept the "stripe" going the right way

As suggested you should inform the shop straight away with fitting faults - they should sort it out to your complete satisfaction (we would, as would all independants)

It wasn't a roll end, and thankfully we didn't pay for the waste they just seem to be lazy.
Maybe it's best if I just call them, although I know my wife will go mad at me....she thinks I'm OCD!

is the weave straight on the opposite wall?
Sometimes if a rooms not square the fitter will set the carpet off a straight wall and it will run out on the wall opposite. If you're not happy contact the store.

trust me....

you WILL have paid for a 5 x4!

NO ONE can afford to waste materials - especially a national chain where stock control is computerised.

just multiply the ticket price by the 4.4 square metres you didnt need - thats how much it has cost you!.

going back to your original question - YES you MUST ring and voice your concerns to the shop. Discussing it on here fixes nothing and your appear to have a valid complaint

Are the stripes straight in the doorway?

It is usual to square the lines up in the doorway where you walk into the room, it is also common to find that walls are not straight meaning that at the edges, the stripes may not follow the walls.

If the walls are not 'true' then if the stripes had been set off along one wall perfectly, they will not follow the other wall, they are also likely to look crooked when viewed from the doorway.
