Can I use any sand to refill the gaps between the block paving?
The reason I ask is I've seen plastering sand a lot cheaper than the sand intended for block paving at the builder's merchants.

no you must use kiln dired sand. It is super fine and dried so that it flows like an egg timer sand into all the gaps. Plastering sand is too course and because it will be slightly damp it will catch halfway up the joints leaving voids.
