Re-using old sand

Hi.

I'm currently replacing an old block paving patio and am going to replace with flagstone paving.

At the moment I have removed all the blocks and have dug up most of the old sharp sand which was beneath the blocks.

I was thinking rather than take all the old sand down the tip then buy new sand for the mortar could I recycle the old sand and re-use it for the mortar?

go nuts, the only problem will be it being a bit 'dead' as long as you use plasticiser in your mix it will be fine.
