HD to old tv

I have a sky dish with 4 cable outlets, 2 are
feeding the freesat box for a newish HD freeview tv
if I use the other 2 outlets to feed my old none HD tv
will it work when this area is changed to HD [soon]
I dont want to run new cables to find its no good
later on!!

A universal LNB works with any modern satellite TV receiver. Is that what you are asking? It's not clear to me.

If your area is going to be 'changed to HD', then I'm presuming this is referring to Freeview and not Freesat/Sky, as both of these have broadcast HD channels to the whole of the UK for years AFAIK.

If you only have a Sky dish for your TV signals, then the Freeview/DSO won't affect you.

If you want to feed two older TVs with your satellite signal, then you're obviously going to need more Freesat or Sky boxes !

In terms of cables though, any type of coax is capable of carrying an HD signal, but it's advisable to use a decent quality, foam-filling coax (eg. PF100 or WF100).

I kept my sky box when I changed to the freesat!!

You can pick up a lot of the free channels with a Sky box and no subscription, but there are some that you can't unless you have an active card - possibly Ch4. and/or 5 and their derivatives IIRC, from the last time I tried this.

There is a subtle difference between channels that are Free To Air (FTA) and Free To View (FTV).

You used to be able to buy a card from Sky for a one-off fee of £20 which might be your cheapest option - I think this might give you access to more channels than an inactive card, but I don't know for definite.

If you don't want to give Sky any money and want to receive all of the basic free channels, then you might be better off looking into getting Freeview or additional Freesat decoders.
