Hello All,

I have just finished tanking the basement in my victorian flat and I am now about to start fitting it out, does anyone know the best way to sound deaden between the floors as my bedroom is above part of the basement.

The joists are 24cm and I am planning to put in downlights as the headheight is only 235cm and have found these (http://www.simplyled.co.uk/Mains-Voltage-Fixed-Fire-Rated-Downlight-GU10-Twist-Lock-Insulation-Covered-Aurora-AU-DLM621_AYZBM.aspx) that say they work will insulation over. I can't afford to lose any headheight so ideally something that will sit above the plastrerboard.

thanks

Nick

Any holes in the ceiling will transmit sound from above, why don't you have up lighters in the room. That way the ceiling will be unbroken.

The last poster is right in what they say
I have just done a wall and found that sound proofing is a dark art
I used green glue (google it ) that was used between 2 extra sheets of plasterboard that were fixed to a false wall that was built 3 mm away from the wall that I was proofing. Between the 3x2 was filled with 50mm rock wool RWA 45.
You have to look in to it fully and in depth as there is a danger that you will spend money and find it makes no difference. You may well improve the sound thorugh the floor -- only to find that it gets pushed up and through your walls anyway.---as I said a dark art

Mango, who did you get to tank your basement?

I am looking to do the same and am in Surrey.

Thanks I think i may heed that advice and go for uplighters in the main room, I can in the bathroom as the missus is definate on them and a bit more difficult as it will be tiled. I think i'll just have to pack the joists with sound deadening and double up the plasterboard

Hi,

I used a company called Abtech who were excellent and used Delta membrane, i dug out myself and they did the tanking and the drainage pumps.

look at the green glue web site - as it has a lot of info on how to do it.
If you go for that I do have a couple of tubes and a extra large gun leftover --for sale
