Hi everyone,
I have an installation query on Velux windows

My roof is like the image shown above, there are no vertical lathes above the felt just the horizontal ones.

How do I fit the drip rail? They show the vertical lathes cut away. Which I cant do as they don't exist, on the outside. If I fit the drip rail it will probably foul the tiles.

Should I build a frame up similar to below? Then the drip rail should be okay.

The USA site seems to cover my roof but the UK instructions are a little bit vague. I have just finished installing new floor joists and the floor is now in so the windows are the next step.

Thank very much in advance.

The image that shows the batons cut away is a counter batoned roof so ignore that, the drip rail you can nail it to the rafter I recommend setting it at an angle then lapping the felt into the drip rail. ps use the drip rail as guide to cutting the felt.

Great thanks for your help.

Definitely going for Velux after reading the install instructions for other makes they have pretty much thought of everything.

Cheers

I had exactly the same question.

Velux helpline told me it was not required in this situation.

Also as it only catches drip's behind the tiles if its required you have a problem anyway I suppose!

Funnily enough Velux told me the same thing. I also had a look at other fitting instructions/videos for other makes. They pretty much do the same thing cut across the felt and tuck a flap of felt from the window frame under it. Velux have the gutter (transverse drainage gutter) for belt and braces.

Rooflite have some nice videos and pictures. They are one of the few companies that show how to fit them from the inside and mention about bracing the roof rafter before cutting them.

Thanks
