Computer Will Not Boot.

Hi, can anybody kindly help?

My HP Compaq DC5750 won't boot up.
I get a message stating:-

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of the above file."

The computer is running Windows XP Professional. Unfortunately I don't have the recovery disk any more.

Any advice gratefully received.

did you fix this issue? I guess you would need either the recovery boot partition to be created on your hard disk OR you need the Windows XP OEM disk to boot off to repair the file you are missing!
