Gas Cooker Connection - Can It Be Done?

That's fine, but isn't an answer to my question. Simple enough, I haven't got the money for someone to come out and say yes its a gas pipe, you can have a gas cooker and that will be £100 plus £50 call out please.

I have a cooker, I have a gas pipe, was in use the 30 years ago I have lived here all that time, nobody has touched it.

I expect to ask an RGI to come and connect my cooker when it arrives next week. He will have to fit a bayonet fitting £5 in screw-fix and connect the pipe to the cooker. Job done. Sorry but I will not be giving part payments to anybody.

Just so other people in the same situation know where I'm coming from who will no no-doubt find this thread of use, if I receive an answer to my question that is. I am a person on a low income with the words MUG written on my forehead that I am desperately trying to remove. I had a professional do some electrical work for me, I had to go behind them myself to put the screws in the terminal which fell out when I removed the cover. I had a professional electrician wire the very cooker we have just removed; he used a lower fuse rating switch on the main board that kept blowing when using the oven and hobs, I went behind him and done it myself. I had a professional corgi gas installer, that was the name for a professional at the time, cap off an old gas heater, it was still leaking, my grandfather sorted it for us. (Thank you Grandad, god rest his sole, always done everything his self, but you could in those days). Not overly keen on giving so called professional money in this family, if you've read the above you will have some idea why.

Curry's said (for those still looking for an answer if coming across my thread, is word of mouth mind you: The charge of £85 is for the delivery and installation of Gas cookers and £100 for dual fuel. He said the installer would fit a bayonet adapter to the 1/2 thread gas pipe and supply whatever parts it took to connect a new cooker purchased from Curry's, so apparently we would not have a problem buying from them.

Question which would be helpful to myself and others that don't want to be ripped off is... Roughly, how much would you expect to pay for an "RGI" to screw on a bayonet(£5) fitting to excisting gas pipe (that currently is working and has a flange plug on it) and connect to cooker, would also be nice if he could wire in the electric oven of the dual fuel cooker (wire is hanging at the back ready)?

Sounds to me like you have a capped 1/2 inch wall plate or iron with a plug fitted in it? Or is it a compression stop end? Either way a RG Engineer can add a bayonet fitting, then test that your installation and your cooker are safe to use.
It's not just a case of connecting the hose and buggering off.

As above its not just a matter of screwing a bayonet fitting in and leaving.
Numerous tests have to be done to ensure your system is safe.
how much do you expect to pay?
85.00 pound installation charge sounds fair to me.

The installation instructions will state the position for the gas connection.
£125 sounds about right.

That's great so it should cost around £100 - £125 for a gas safe installer to connected it up. I personally, after reading comments will not take the offer of the delivery bloke doing the job, as someone else said, they just want to dump it and run.

Not everyone works the same but if you phone me BEFORE you order, I would give you a quote (subject to survey but rarely altered) based on your answers. I would then survey before you order but insist on part payment. I would then return when you have the cooker. That way I will give you the max dimensions plus make sure gas supply is live and sufficient etc.

Hey benjy , I'd be quoting you around 150 notes to install that cooker...£5 for a bayonet fitting?? I pay around 5 quid and that includes stability chain..

The OP has not mentioned a stability chain!

Would that include a stability bracket/chain??...perhaps the OP will refuse for you to fit one...

Probably would if I was feeling generous, even if Benny did not want it.

I do feel a little stupid fitting a stab chain to a 110 kilo range cooker which I can hardly move let alone tip over!
