Hi Guys
Can my neighbour run a washing machine waste pipe externally on the boundary wall inside my garden around the house through the fence to her drain on her side of her property
Many Thanks
Andrew

If you allow her to then yes, or if you don't want it in your garden then say no.

Personally I would tell her no, its your airspace, and could cause friction in future. She will either have to reroute internally or put the washing machine somewhere else.

Can she insist that the pipe goes on her wall ?
The pipe will be in my garden.

Might be her wall, but if it is the boundary, then you own the airspace on your side of it, from the wall onwards. You are not allowed to interfere with the wall without her permission, likewise she cannot put anything on the wall in your airspace without your permission.

If she starts being awkward, and insists its 'her right', the I would write her a letter, send it recorded delivery, saying you do not give any permissions for her or her agents to enter your premises to attach anything to or along the wall inside your airspace. Any attempt to do so will be treated as trespass, and the offending article removed.

She can't insist. Only you can allow things to overhang the boundary. She would need to run it internally, if you don't allow it.

Of course any outside waste pipe can freeze in winter - particularly if helped by "Sir Puller's" budget pipe freezing kit:sneaky:

Is the drain she is using for the waste a mains drain, storm drain or combined? If it's a separate rainwater/storm drain then there are likely water bye laws that prohibit discharge of washing machines as they ultimately end up in water courses and rivers causing pollution. Tell her that regardless of where she wants to attach the pipe, you can't condone her breaking water bye laws.

To be honest I'm worried bringing up water by laws would cause confusion.
Just stick to the point that their plumbing can stay in their property regardless of how convenient it would be for them to use your property

We don't know where she is/was planning to discharge it to, and at the moment the advice is not to allow the running of the pipe through the OP's garden. I would hope the resident concerned has done her homework and wishes to run to this drain as it is suitable for a washing machine waste, so please do not confuse the thread needlessly!
