Sorry to have a moan but this am sure is an issue that many people who are wanting a boiler replaced will suffer from and its frustrated me. This is not a 'how much should it cost post' as I understand you cant quote until you see the job first hand.

I got three quotes to replace an old combi with a heat only boiler and 250 ltr solar tank to go that way in the future by three independent gas fitters.

All said they would fit a Worchester greenstar cdi. Each one said I required a different size, 30, 35 and 42. They all agreed with the Worchester solar unvented cylinder.

The quotes I got back varied by a few thousand pounds, and the one with the smallest boiler the 30cdi was by far the most expensive.

This is just to show that although the experts on here always recommend to get a professional to advise and carry out work its not quite as straight forward as that. Which one will do the best job? What size boiler is correct?

To be honest am now tempted to patch my current boiler up and just make do.

What is your current boiler? Bear in mind any older cast iron boiler, whilst not being the most efficient, if looked after properly can continue to provide sterling service for some time to come.

The expected gas savings from a new HE boiler take time before they pay off the cost of the new boiler installation, and in come cases, that cost isn't recouped before the 'new' boiler needs replacing again!

Chances are the one who quoted the 30 is the best if the bunch, but his cab we tell. I'd be more concerned why you got 3 separate wooshitter quotes.

What OUTPUT is your current boiler?

The current boiler is a 15 year old Vokera Linea Max. Looking at the manual Central Heating output range 28.0kW. 15 year old house with 18 radiators.

I asked for any other boilers and they all said Worcester are the best. I was sniffing around for an Intergas after reading post on this forum, but no, Worcester seem to be the only boiler type.

As mentioned its a 15 year old Vokera Linea max. Two issue I know for certain are the diverter valve needs a overhaul, relief valve leaking. Possibly the Expansion vessel is faulty or might just need a top up. No idea how much this will cost but has to be less than a new boiler, my thought was that I might end up throwing money at the Vokera to keep it going.
