Is the engine anti-clash or are the valves bent?

Any use fitting a new belt fitted and a compression test?

Because of the shape of the combustion chambers in the head, this will be an interference engine.
The quick test (!) is to pop a new belt on, turn the engine by hand feeling for obstruction and if there's none, go for a start up (Fingers crossed :eek:)

So its a case of getting the shafts aligned with out further damage and getting a belt fitted.
 
Yep, that's about it.....not fool proof of course as tiny valve stem bends may not allow piston contact but may still cause a misfire.
At the end of the day you need to get the engine running ( or not) as soon as possible so you know where you stand.

I've had word from my sister who owns the car.

She put into a garage and the engine's lost compression!

She going to get rid off it.
 
Is that after fitting a new belt? With a broken belt it will definitely have no compression!
 
The garage had a spare belt which they fitted to do compression tests on the cylinders.

She going to ask for a quote on a cylinder head/valves job, provided of course, there's no piston damage.

I'm not familiar with Citroens so don't know these engines.
 
The pistons largely survive - maybe with the odd dent or two. As for the head it's impossible to say......sometimes the valves fold and crack the valve seat, sometimes the bend is so slight it can only be measured when the valve is spun on a lathe.
Maybe a second hand head is the way to go, but that can only be determined when the head is removed.
It's quicker of course to shove a complete engine in, and there's lots around!

Depends on which engine type? Earlier models had a tendency to break the rockers. If it's the 4 cylinder 8 valve engine the head replacement is a really easy job. Can easily be done in a couple of hours
