Hi I've got a plasterer coming round Thursday and he need the radiator off so he can get behind it. Do I just turn the valves to close them off both ends of therm and the other end and that's it or will the water still come through once I've emptied all the water from radiator? ..
Someone suggest stop end caps for the ends.? Are they all the same size? I've bought 1/2 " compression blanking brass blanking nuts? Will they fit

Shut the valves down then unscrew the nuts closest to the rad.

At first they will drip as the thread is trying to initially push the valve away from its seat.

Once fully undone you can keep modest pressure on the valve to prevent dripping.

With one person at each valve quickly move the valve, lift the rad and slip your thumb over the hole and walk the rad outside. The whole job takes seconds and is a piece of cake. Empty the contents onto next doors front lawn.

Also tape a small plastic bag over the valves once the rads are removed , it'll save you having to pick plaster out of it prior to refitting.

Have loads of towels and a big bucket to collect the rad water

It is generally black

I thought they dripped until the pressure was relieved in the rad? How does a thread push anything?

When you initially unscrew the valve nut it unseats the cone shaped connection betwixt the valve and the rad. As you keep unscrewing and the valve becomes loose and it allows you to put enough hand pressure back on the valve to prevent any dripping.
The dripping is only brief and alarming but some people panic. An old towel is all you need beneath the valve.
