I will have some building materials to dispose of soon when I take a ceiling down in a room suffering damp, to check the beams and so on.

It's not really a big enough job for a skip and while I have a big garden, this room is quite awkward to access, being stuck on the corner of the property on the other side of the driveway retaining wall (10' drop to the drive).

I was sure you could get someone to come collect those big woven bags (the same type you get sand and soil delivered in) on a little pickup, but all I've come across from Googling is HippoBags. Who look brilliant but pretty pricey, more than a skip! I'm after just a 1m^3 bag I think, I'd like to dump the waste straight into it and have it lifted out to minimise mess and effort.

Are there search terms I should be using to find companies doing this locally (I'm in Durham)?

Grab bags is probably what you're after - look on the websites for local stone/aggregate suppliers as they often offer this as a secondary service.

I just break up everything small and double bag it before taking to tip in the car [about £3 in petrol for me].

Our tip charges £3:50p per bag for rubble. It is more than that but they do say that their charges apply to an 8 kilo bag that not many of old buggers can carry so they generally halve it to £3:50. They class anything that isn't cardboard, garden rubbish ie leaves grass and twigs, wood, metal, electricals and landfill as rubble. I have 22 bags of rubble, mostly soil, that I have dug out of a fish pond I am building. the cheapest option I have found is a mini skip.

You can get different sized skips, so ring round and see what's on offer.

Maybe google licensed rubbish clearers in your area. Make sure they are licensed and give a proper receipt.

You can buy the grab bags easily (as opposed to hippos)

Use rubble bags to shift the stuff and store them in the grab bag near the front of the house

Then you have the option of self disposal via the tip or a proper removal
Using a grab bag may mean that a contractor gives a discount compared to having to load it by hand if they have a grab loader or crane

Must be lucky, our council make no charge for tip use.

Our local tip now charges for diy waste even though government advice states that diy (not trade) waste should be free

I guess it depends how much you have, how close your tip is, and how limited/valuable your time is to you. If I can get it taken away at a reasonable price and save myself time to get on with something else I'd prefer that.

Hi,now what do you consider a reasonable price ?

I previously used skips but thanks to the ****s who thought it was a free service to dispose of their bulky goods,i now use a licensed rubbish collector and pay them £1 a bag (rubble size bag) to collect/load.everything is legal and documented including photos.

So where are you located ? as they have many branches.

I'm in the countryside near Durham. No neighbours, private access.

If I can avoid having to break it up to fit in rubble sacks, even better

If it is lathe and plaster there will be the hell of a mess and breaking it up will be necessary

Luckily it's plasterboard this time. Yeah lath walls you clear up with a shovel!
