What sand to use

Hi,I need to patch up some holes in a garden exterior wall which has been painted and am going to use sand and cement mix ,is ordinary building sand ok to use it says suitable for bricklaying and internal rendering or should I use a different type ,any advice would be great,thanks.

Yes I think in theory you can mix some sharp sand in but being honest the number of sands in wickes confuse me a lot and I've been doing experimentation with them to see how they affect things.
Building sand is more likely to shrink, so if you use it then don't overdo the water.
