Vaillant were kind enough to send me a spare while I was still hunting down the part. For future reference the part number is 252629

Just for information, you can connect an external temperature sensor to the boiler directly and read the external temperature on the boiler directly without using any of the Vaillant controls. It's rather pointless to do so, because you won't use an of the weather compensation features without a controller. But the boiler has the ability to convert the thermistor reading into a degree C value.

I wasn't sure if the logic to convert resistance to temperature was built into the boiler or the controller. Turns out, it's the boiler that actually informs all the devices on the bus as to what the external temperature is. They in turn use that information to perform any weather compensation, or simply to display it.

As I said it's rather pointless for most people to do that. But for me this is good news especially since I do not use a Vaillant controller. Now my self built controller has access to the boiler read external temperature reading too, and the temperature of the cylinder too without needing any other wiring boxes or controllers. Happy Days.
