Any bright ideas for removing this bit of metal?

Does anyone have any bright ideas for cutting this metal C section flush with the wall without damaging the plaster around it??

I used tin snips up the sides but can’t get the angle to cut the top.

Assuming you don't have any proper tools, like a multitool or recip saw, then just use a Hacksaw blade.
 
Oxy-acetylene would be quite bright.

Overwise, one of those hacksaw and file things that have been around for centuries

it looks like galvanised stud wall fitting.
is the bit you want to remove screwed to the vertical?
It looks as if a piece of timber pushed into the corner and a whack might unclip it
 
If its fixed solid, then a sharpened cold chisel and hammer will cut through it flush to the upright.
