Im slowly painting my house, next on agenda living room, lots of cracks & holes to fill i can cope with but what the proverbial do i do with this? See pic, ceiling seems to have some paper on it thats is all split & cracking - do i lather it in polyfilla type stuff & stick down or is there is something else i should do?

Pull all the tape off, clean up, apply new scrim tape, fill over.
Mesh type tape is much better than 'solid' type tape IMO.
