Whie powder in boiler

My parents asked me to have a look at their boiler. It’s oil, 18 months old, serviced 6 months ago.

Any ideas about this white powder which has appeared recently? I don’t want to call the plumber out unless I need to…

Looks like plaster take the top off and have a look round does the flue go into a chimney,or is the back wall plaster which is loose the first step is always take a good look.Bob

Hi Bob - no, the boiler's in a little brick hut, and the flue goes straight through the roof - nothing like plaster up there.

And the picture above is the boiler with the door off - if anything fell from above, it wouldn't be able to get into the metal enclosure

Hhmmm, dunno John - will have to go back to their place in daylight and have a look.

Would you expect there to be one?

If so, I wonder what its apparent disintegration might mean...

Like Bob I would have expected the deposits to be plaster, initially but as that isn't the case I would expect to see some insulation board above the burner.
When the boiler was serviced the burner would have been withdrawn from the firebox and the snorkel air supply hose disconnected which could account for some disturbance.
Either way, the deposit is so small I wouldn't be worrying too much!

Mine does same thing. Any more suggestions? Definitely not plaster or insulation dust!!
