In addition to the locked posts elsewhere, I found the following:

Yes there were several bad joints (best viewed with a magnifying glass) including on the reset switch.

Also the fuse, though not blown, was reading very erratically on a dvm. I did not have a replacement, so wrapped it in fooil as a temp. All working now, so hope this may be helpful.

PCBs now available for £30 on ebay.

Well, clap clap that man - not fake, repaired
but unlike me they only give 3 months warranty

Why would you want a repaired old board?, they have been updated several times in pottertons efforts to find a reliable version.

a) it's significantly cheaper
b) if there's a fault, then potterton should recall them
c) they are no less reliable
d) I know of 12 people today who see the point
e) whatever else

Should hope so, they are rubbish.

b) if there's a fault, then potterton should recall them
Never going to happen, recalls are only made on serious safety grounds

c) they are no less reliable
No maybe not in dreamland

d) I know of 12 people today who see the point
Excellent, lets hope the point is still clear when they need the next one in a few months.

e) whatever else

Ah but potterton with thier huge budget couldn't find the main fault and just updated it for the sheer fun factor. Wereas raden in his shed has found it fixed it and forgoten it.

But I very seldom get a failure under warranty, so I must be doinf something right. Since they account for about 50% of all the boards we repair, if we were kocking out unreliable crap (copywrite potterton), we quite simply wouldn't still be in business

Therefore there's no inherent safety argument to what we do either - by your definition

Since you really don't have the experience on which to base an opinion, you should keep your mouth shut otherwise how can you be taken seriously ?

See above - I have this sort of number going out on a daily basis

you see, you really don't have a clue -

e) whatever else
No problem with what you do,

t'would seem so from your answers above

The bit you are missing is how successful we are

If you ever got out of this forum into various other ones, you might see some of the satisfied customers recommending us

At the end of the day, we turn over a third of a million (go check, if you want)

there is no "main fault" (other than crap flow soldering) it's just generally badly designed and poorly manufactured

but you wouldn't know that would you, as it would entail having a clue

Of course your knocking out decent numbers it is worth giving 30 quid a whirl wheather it works or not and not worth messing around with warranties when it fails, just chalk it up to experience and fit the current one.
I wasn't aware you were familiar with my experience of suprimas but you seem to be, so perhaps you know why only approx 20% of the suprimas on the local new biuld estates are still on the original board.

Edit to fill in missing line

If your post actually made sense, I might be abe to answer it

Whatever your experience, I havew dealt with orders of magnitude more of them than you

You see, I do know what I'm talking about, your slagging off my pcbs shows that you obviously don't

If you had a clue, you might be dangerous

Not slagging off your pcbs I never was, potterton I was having a dig at. It is claims like this:
"Whatever your experience, I havew dealt with orders of magnitude more of them than you"
that show you up to be a real fool.

Not a fool. what I said is just a statement of fact

And I enjoy having a go at the GOSK
