I have house built around 1900 that has solid masaonry construction with cement render over the bricks. The render has cracked and blown in places. It has also been patched in many areas by the previous owners. Will I able to fix the render by fixing the blown patches and using some good paint or will I need to hack it all back to brick. I am quite nervous of the second option as I am worried about doing a lot of damage to the bricks. Any advice would be most welcome. Please see attached pics.

Render, flat roofs, and box gutters should be banned by law. So enjoy your dilemma.

It's an opinion; you tend to get em when you ask for em on the internet!

I'll add dormers to the list. Especially flat roofed dormers with PVC clad verticals

depends what you mean by fix. It will likely always be slightly visible where the new patch meets the old if you patch it up but most people will never look that closely. I'd patch it, as that wall is a lot of work to re-render

A full re-render will fall under the auspices of Building Regulations.
