Pooling of water at base of hot bath tap

Hi all,

Another day another leak.

This time I have noticed some pooling of water at the base of the tap. I checked under the bath/tap and don't believe it's from there. Am I right in thinking it's the valve on the tap that needs replacing?

It's not coming from anywhere else above the tap that I can see pooling above here... Attaching two pics of the area it's coming out.

Time to replace the faucet?

Sorry I should mention this is happening regardless of hot tap or or off. I leave it off and come back and there's slight pooling of water

Tighten the nut that holds the tap body to the upright. The top of where you have circled

I gave it a tighten but still persists. However, had this of worked surely it would have just been keeping water inside the tap and not escaping? The leak is from somewhere and does not appear to be underneath where else could it be?

Those pillars hold water all the time so the larger nut at the back of the tap seals the tap body onto those pillars, there's a rubber seal in there to stop it leaking, if they go loose then they can weep.

The tap valve itself could be leaking from the gland where the spindle enters the valve body, if it has a gland nut (rather than o-rings) that can be nipped up too. Time to get the cross head off and then the valve shroud to take a look methinks.

Thanks, apologies but which cross head are we referring to, would this be under the 'hot' cap in the tap?

I think the taps will need replacing as the diverter when put to the showerhead leaks from the diveter when on. But thought if I can stop thos pooling in the meantime all good.

Once I have this sorted and the waste issue - I can hopefully move on from leaks for now. Plumbers on holiday for a week.

Yes the cross tap head is the top 'cross' part that you turn. Under the hot cap (indice) there should be a screw, remove that and the cross head should pull off the stem, then remove the valve shroud that covers the valve, then see what type of valve it is.

Some have a smaller nut, that is called the gland nut. Work the tap on and off and if it weeps from there then it can be nipped up but is only a temp solution. If it doesn't have a small nut but a circlip then it's internal O-rings and then the valve needs replaced.
