I discovered a leaking pipe inside a kitchen cabinet. Unfortunately a bit of damage already done. The edge banding of the MDF has curled away leaving an unsightly gap. Will a warm iron after applying some glue into the gap fix this? How would you fix this.

The lzmibations suggests it is ply not mdf, but the picture is not clear. Can you upload pic/pics showing the setting from a wider angle?

Def not ply. It's printed banding that looks like ply. It is a very good look a like. I've tried to get a better picture for some reason can't get much better than that. I suspect it is a bit crumbly, the black bit behind the banding. My idea is, once bone dry, mix some wood glue and pine saw dust and push it in along the line, and if an warm to hot iron takes the curn in the banding out, seal the edges back together. I doubt it could look much worse. try it on a 10cm long section and if it works do the rest.

I would try a two part wood resin like timbabuild. I have used it on solid timber and the manufacturers instructions say it can be use with mdf. It can be sanded to shape. It might be tricky to get it in a small gap though but I would try it if, as I suspect, the sawdust and wood glue won’t bond and bind sufficiently well.
