Somebody made a conscious decision to stop a lot of our manufacturing ability and move it offshore. Concentrating on finance only.

And unless you want low wages then there isn't much choice but to import stuff. Tariffs don't work (other than 1 or 2 specific targets maybe), other than just drive up the prices. It's a vicious circle, but to control imports you need staff. Comes at a cost. Pay it, or go without and watch the standards get lower and lower

I've been saying that Chinese stuff is total rubbish and buying it is dangerous but everyone wants cheap, cheaper and cheapest, at risk of death.
I believe you're one of them supporting mass import of Chinese EV; apologies if it's not you.
If 20 or even 30 years ago we supported British manufacturers instead of buying the cheapest, we wouldn't be slaves today.

So what sort of government do you think we should have had which would have prevented UK companies from moving their factories abroad?

What powers would you have had them equipped with to enforce the prohibition? Sequestration of remaining UK assets? Forced cancellation of all the shares? Imprisonment of the directors and managers?

A government that put it's people first.
Manufacturers moved abroad because taxes were to high here and they could ship their products back without tariffs.
Government facilitated and encouraged this migration.
They instead should've cut taxes to manufacturers, impose heavy tariffs on shyte imports and think about British people.
Charging corporation tax to a massive company/employer is just stupid.
They go somewhere else.
Governments should have negotiated tax percentage with these manufacturers rather than kick them out of the country.
Too difficult to understand for a communist like you, but this is how it works.
