The focus is also on a battle to control oil which is why Karg island is about to be invaded. Trumpf thinks he can ensure supplies are maintained and reduce prices. It is a massive escalatory risk.

Correct, but the question is how do you know unless you are a solicitor? even then it is a very grey area. If you refuse a command, then you are in for some serious consequences if you have it wrong. You would not receive any command that would be so blatantly obvious that it is illegal, not a call for a soldier to make unless it is blatantly obvious. dammed if you do and dammed if you dont. Orders given are expected to be acted upon immediately and not to ponder over in your own time.

Completely illegal, you cannot fire at an enemy surrendering or are incapacitated to fight back. The man is a bufoon as he quotes standing before the press Friday morning, Hegseth again promised “no quarter, no mercy for our enemies.” Under the geneva convention this could and would be considered as murder, any soldier obeying these orders would also be comitting war crimes.

Not in the least have I changed my tune, here is an exert from your own link.
it’s not just global rules that are being flouted. Not only does the term no quarter violate the Geneva Convention, it defies the U.S. Marine Corps’ own rules of engagement: “Do not engage anyone who has surrendered or is out of battle due to sickness or wounds.”
NO Command has been issued, he was talking in a press conference on HIS views of engagement. No soldier would follow that order.
