Snigger.

Taking away the heating allowance was his first mistake I dont think people ever really got over that horrible thing he did.
The people that got most upset were the ones who needed it least but had the most leverage politically

It upset me because I hate to see old war hero's and old codgers choose between heating and eating.....and I dont need it or give a shyza politically (y)

My point exactly.
Not really. At least with the heating allowance the government provide the means to opt out.

I remember years ago when the missus and me could not be ersed with the child allowance and we tried to say no thanks. Nigh on impossible to opt out. It was ridiculous.

Whats the point of not having it just to tell people you opted out?

We just let ours build up over the years then give it them.

The missus tells me it was Working Families Tax Credit or some such. It was faffy in terms of declaring it (SE tax) etc and we didn't need it either. To say no to it was like asking to donate a limb.

Well if got offered this 200 squid I would not have opted out I would have taken it and any one telling me about being public spirited / morality or what ever as to there reasons for me not taking it

Can go and do one afai am concerned

Gotta hand it to Osborne for setting it up, a political bribe with a built in backlash if anyone tried to remove it. Needy veterans were never going to suffer.

Whaddya mean, Eh?
In simple terms:
1.Gov.uk will automatically pay it to everyone over a certain age, regardless of their financial status.
2.If they are not eligible, either they must pay it back or Gov.uk will have to claim it back.
3.That is work for people on both sides.
4.To save that administrative work, those that are not eligible can choose to opt out of receiving it in the first place to save on the hassle of paying it back.
5.That’s what JohnD has done.
6.It’s nothing to do with being altruistic. He's given nothing away. He's just saved himself some paperwork at the end of the financial year.
Gottit now?
