My step bricks have slumped down over the years which I want to re-lay. can anyone tell me how I can get them out without damaging them please as I tried a crowbar which didn't work and I stopped for fear of chipping them ?

Drill a hole, in the centre of one, so you can insert a screw and plug. You can then lever the brick up using the screw, and a crow-bar. Get one up and the rest should be easy. When you relay that first brick, simply lay it with the opposite face up.

Good idea thanks but ideally I would prefer to not have to put a hole in one of them.

Surely one of them can be levered up, where the gaps are bigger? You can probably loosen them by digging out whatever's between them with a suitable screwdriver or similar.

I'd knock out the infill between slabs and bricks: it'll need reinstating anyway.

Ok, so I managed to lift one with crowbar and get the rest out easily (After doing some tests, I found what I think is a large diamond underneath one of the blocks) I have set them back with some sharp sand and soil mixture, and when I get some mortar I shall point them.

My question is, the concrete proceeding the blocks has sunk in the middle which exposes the bricks. I think it could be a trip hazard so would it be better to take all the concrete out and fill with mortar or mortar over the concrete to make level ? I do have some old terracotta tiles I could put in front of it if they are the right width.
