Hi all.
I have removed an old unused gas fire from living room and plan to open it out into a "fire place feature wall" so to speak. Currently looks like this.

We plan to remove one corse of brick either side to have an opening similar to below

My concern is the trapizium shped cutout that has been replaced. Im thinking replace existing lintel and then place new one overhanging by 150mm, then concreate/breezee block above similar to below.

Anyone see any issues with this, or any ideas?

Thanks

There would likely have been a 'builders opening' there originally, then the fireback and the red bricks added into that opening. Peck away at them and you will probably expose the original opening and lintel.
