As I cant post in the Gas fitters section, hope this section is ok.
We have an old type G6 type of meter fitted in a box out side, some years ago this was fitted as a replacement for the modern digital type (model type not known) as we had about 4 replacements fitted in about two months. The last Gas fitter that attended, explained that in his professional opinion, the gas main in our road had not been buried deep enough and vibration in the pipe induced by Busses and HGV vehicles using the road was causing the Anti tamper mech in the Meter to operate cutting our supply off .Since having the old type G6 meter fitted back we have had no more issues.
Now Octopus are telling me the G6 meter is out of calibration and needs to be replaced with a Smart meter as no G6 type replacements are available . Do any Gas fitters on here foresee a repeat of the Anti tamper issue ?

Replacement non smart meters are available, I don't know why these energy suppliers are stating otherwise and why it's a must for smart meters

Perhaps Octopus have no G6 meters and do not supply them anymore. Your supply agreement should clarify what they can and can't do.

There is nothing wrong with smart meters.

How do octopus know its out of calibration the standard policy term for a g6 type meter change is 20 years of age .
Cant see a service not being buried deep enough causing the anti tamper device to activate . I have fitted /and attended thousands of meters with anti tamper device and never seen this as an issue.
Smart meters can be fitted in dumb mode this may turn off the anti tamper part of it .
