Metal Back Box Clips

Have fitted the boxes in the Paramount today.

The back of the cavity to the fresh skim is 48mm, so I chose to use strips of 10mm wood and stuck them to the back of the cavity with a goodly amount of quick-drying goo applied to both surfaces.

Gave it an hour to go off a bit, then screwed the boxes in.

So far, so good.

Will leave the first fix till the decorating has been done. Next job before the decorator comes is to go round and sand down the rough spots and fill and sand the bits that need filling with Toupret.

Be carefull with them duel boxes, i fitted them and found only certain face plates fitted them without hitting each other and others left a nasty gap between, if i had the choice again id couple up 2 singles
Also theres no adjustment so ensure box is level

I dunno before fitting box i usually tap the top and bottom lugs out of the way and fit the grommets

Not saying it has to be done that way

Yeah, realised there weren't any adjustable lugs after fitting it.

And if the vertical plane lugs are in the way, I'll get shot of them.

They’re a bit of a nuisance that’s all

I was always in the habit of tapping them down on a solid surface

Some of the old MK ones had 4 lugs for horizontal mounting and two lugs for verticalmounting.

Six lugs for the price of two - bargain!

Going back further the screws were top and bottom only, 2 on a single , 4 on a double.

I clearly remember Dad installing BBs to replace surface switches and sockets on wooden patresses, (as he had done in previous rooms in the house) making good and finished decorating before wiring in a switch to find the screw holes were at the sides.

I still have some 'Bill' and some 'MK' sockets in use which are 4 hole.

Something I made up many years ago, certainly pre 2008.

It was originally thrown together in a rush as a temporary solution with customers used junk on a site to prevent a second pump starting and flooding a gulley drain. It has more recently been used to prevent a kettle and a toaster running together while camping

(Not sure if it was that year)

and also to start up a vacuum cleaner as a dust extractor for a mitre saw.

From circa 1972

I seem to have some 4BA screws missing

I can see a meter and a few sockets

What’s the control aspect to it preventing appliances running simultaneously

Is there sensing relay/ contactor

there’s a current relay on each socket (Actually 24VAC relays which I stripped the coil and rewound with a few turns of fairly thick enamelled copper wire

excuse the mess!) disconnecting the other socket, the hours meter was already which was handy to see how long the pair of pumps ran for to give a modicum of info on how much water had been pumped. since then I've added a contactor and reconfigured to make it the auto dust extractor

As it happens the pencil number was the reading at the start of a 10 day amateur radio camp and I see it was 8 hours of kettle or toast.

That’s a smart application bringing on the extraction
I must remember that , one bringing on the other . Im used to thinking the other way round with 1 appliance disabling the other

Actually no what am I saying

I’ve a sensing relay on my instant shower cable bringing on the extraction
