A dilemma

I passed my initial assessment to adopt a greyhound and flew through the house visit. Next is my choosing of the greyhound. I just can’t do it. I couldn’t look at all of them and choose just one. The others would hate me. I have told the rescue manager to choose one for me as that way it would be fair and she could assess each animals needs to my requirements. So I have no idea what I will get. A boy or girl or the colour or size. Is anyone else had this predicament before.

Our daughter is in to taking on rescue cats. Can’t blame the rescue shelters for trying though but watch out if they try to foist two onto you because they are either 'brothers/sisters' or have 'bonded' with another dog while in care and separating them would cause distress.

When I first saw my owner I had a checklist of requirements. But, I still can't get them to pee outside!!

Hopefully they will pick you a nice hound. A couple of things to consider.
-ex race dogs, aren't used to treats and toys they take time to learn to play
-Sight hounds can injure their legs and have skin like tissue
-Their prey drive is unbelievable- probably never let them run in the woods. So many kill themselves hitting trees at high speed.
-they can be friends with cats and then kill them

They aren't pets, you just applied for a new job as their human

You need to make sure they learn everyone's relative position in the pack, so let them see her dominating you.

Do your whippets ever go off a lead when walking? I won't dare until I get to know the dog, but luckily I am surrounded by dog fields that you can rent by the hour, so planning on hiring that once a week so it can run free safely.

I've had mine from puppies so was able to train them to recall when they were scared little squgglets. You have to be comfortable with recall and have the added challenge that they wont be treat responsive to start with.

You can do emergency recall which works well on Sight hounds. If you run away they will likely chase you. When they get to you throw them a treat party and give them lots of praise.

Yes as part of the adoption pack, you get a coat, a collar and lead and a tag collar, the bit I found odd was a muzzle too.
