Do I need to treat raw cast iron feet on bath?

Hi,
I have a new bath which has raw cast iron feet on it. I have read somewhere on the internet that they need to be treated with something to stop them rusting but I can't remember what it was.

I have tried googling but cannot find anything now and can't remember the web page.

Can anyone shed some light on this please?

Red oxide is probably what your thinking of.

No you don't need to paint them unless the bath is exposed, then it's common to paint the in with the bath or pick them out in gold etc
