    Securing Aquapanel & Priming WBP

Thanks Richard although still a little confused.....is the cleaning/sealing done before or after they're stuck to the wall? Ie should I be taking them all out the packaging and cleaning before laying?

    Securing Aquapanel & Priming WBP

Sorry the brief hijack - I too am about to start retiling my bathroom with the same size and type tile. If the tiles aren't sealed do you seal before or after tiling? Cheers,

    Chimney breast removal

In my house the joists rested on the chimney breast in some places. I removed it downstairs and had to fix the new joists to the party wall with a wall plate.

    Squeaky Floors & Stud Wall

My view (a serious DIYer, not a professional) If the floor as a whole is flexing then it's a sign that the sub floor (joists and noggins) either aren't up to carrying the load they are, or they're fixed poorly so the whole thing is moving. Either way you can't fix it with a couple of...

Insulating A Solid Floor In 1930s House

At the moment I do just mean seal..... I'm concerned that once I start pulling the floor up I might undermine my own house.

Insulating A Solid Floor In 1930s House

Hi, I'm renovating my 1930s ex council house and the kitchen floor is a tiled solid floor. It's in good condition and doesn't appear to have any damp related problems. My thoughts are however that it's best to put some form of DPM down now whilst the whole house is getting done. What's...

DIY testing without spending a fortune?

I have to ask....as it seems that you've so many other safety issues with your house electrics I don't see why you're so keen to test the new sockets so thoroughly

DIY testing without spending a fortune?

Are you talking about a one off? If so just hire the kit....I think the price ranges from about £25-50 per week.

    Part P / BC question

Can you provide a link please to the legislation? That not meant to sound like I'm questioning your viewpoint - I am just interested in seeing what it actually says. Cheers,

    Part P / BC question

That not exactly an accurate comparison though. I can make a product (and indeed - I have for my day job) and not require Trading Standards to endorse it as being up to a certain spec. What we have here though is something where the public body (LABC in this case) has already approved the...

    Part P / BC question

But as I said before - isn't it the LABC that takes the responsibility for compliance? Therefore it would never be myself or indeed another individual defending their actions.

    Part P / BC question

Thanks BAS you did raise this point before when we discussed DIY rewires actually. According to Part P, section 1.24 it says the LABC takes responsibility for ensuring it's compliance so would it not be them who would need to stand up in court...

    Part P / BC question

No i already asked my LABC and they said I can provide my own test results and they're inspectors/subcontractors will just come round and do spot tests and look over the test results. Agreed about part P!

    Part P / BC question

Considering I'm about to start a full rewire of a semi detached property within the coming weeks and envisage myself asking questions, I shall defer to BAS judgement.

    Part P / BC question

I feel you're being pedantic....the point I made and still make is that you pay them, they pay for testing. Who is actually covering the cost is by the by since you can argue we all pay (as tax payers). My LABC insist on 3rd party test results that are then checked by their own subcontractors.
  16. G

    Part P / BC question

Please explain where the misunderstanding is? Part P says the LABC pay for testing. The regulation says the LABC set the fees to cover the cost of testing. Either document you look at they pay.

    Part P / BC question

In Part P: http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/br/BR_PDF_ADP_2006.pdf See section 1.26 They pay - not you.

converting a bedroom to a kitchen...?

How can he afford a wine chiller but not an electrician to wire it in? Sounds like he has his priorities wrong.....

    PVC Doors

Nope - the frames are typically hollow extrusions - some have aluminium in depending on the spec of the door.

Buildings Insurance - Is it required before work begins?

You don't have two insurances though - you have one and the builder has one. You have to declare on the buildings insurance whether significant building work is taking place and the premium does increase so I would have thought it would cover it BUT it would depend on the circumstances of the...
